OPENING NIGHT 2016-17 NHL SEASON FOR PANTHERS

Hello South Florida and everywhere else, who isn't talking about the kid Mathews for the Leafs?

Four goals in his first ever NHL game. And you could see it coming if you watched Team North America in the World Cup. The kid stood out nearly every shift. His speed, size and hockey sense were on full display. Sure, no one could have predicted a four goal outburst last night in Toronto but you had to know he was good.

The only problem with Auston Mathews NHL debut was that he had the only goals scored by the Leafs as they lost 5-4 in overtime.

How often do they raise banners at the BB&T center? The Atlantic division champs will do just that tonight.

The Sun Sentinel lists five things the Cats need to do to improve on last season.

The Miami Herald has several Panther articles including this one featuring NHL vet Shawn Thornton

Like I mentioned a few days ago, the Panther organization is gunning for a Cup.

Ten new players on the roster on opening night for the Cats.

As I opened a beer for the new NHL season I had expected to watch the Hawks - Blues game and then the west coast tilt. It soon became obvious that the game to watch was the Sens-Leafs game and I'm glad I made the switch. The Center Ice package is free for the first two weeks so if you want to watch great hockey besides the Panthers, get you some ASAP. Here in Palm Beach county the games on Comcast are channels 771 thru 779 where you'd normally see the MLB games during the summer. If you have satellite then you're on your own.

The dEvils have five reasons to hope and five reasons to panic.

That's all for now.....if you run a Panther site and want me to send you readers, contact me at bird at hockeybird.com
